Koh Samui History

Ko Samui, one of the world’s driving vacationer spots was for all intents and purposes new till 1972 when the principal visitor ventured on the island. Ko Samui shapes a part of the Surat Thani area in Thailand. Additionally called as Samui by locals, it is arranged off the east bank of Thailand close to the terrain Surat Thani town. It is around 700 kms far from capital city Bangkok. Koh Samui is Thailand’s third greatest island having a range of 228.7 sq.km. with a populace of around 50,000. It is trusted that the underlying occupants of Koh Samui around 1500 years back were anglers who originated from the Malay Peninsula and southern China. It was first shown on Chinese maps of 1687 and was called Pulo Comam. The Ko in Thai means island. Samui implies riddle – it may be a modified type of the Chinese word Saboey whose importance is place of refuge (from unpleasant oceans and terrible climate) or a development of the word mui, a neighborhood tree of the island. Ko Samui was confined and independent till late twentieth century.

It was not joined to the terrain. Till 1970, there were no streets and you needed to stroll through bumpy timberlands to reach starting with one side of the island then onto the next, which took a long, regardless of the separation being only 15 kms. In 1967, Khun Dilok Suthiklom, who was the island’s headman, asked for the legislature for help. From this started the working of first street in Ko Samui and its ease back presentation to the world. Today, Ko Samui is renowned for its shorelines, vacation destinations, spa holidays, special night outings and shopping, making it one of the main visitor spots on the planet.
